connected with Hongkong. (Applause.) You have said we are one in all things, and I can assure you that we are one in our deep and sincere regret at leaving you. On her behalf and on my own I : kay "Good-bye" to all my friends, both European and Chinese, with a sorrowful heart. I thank you most gratefully and sincerely for all the kindness, courtesy and consideration and also for the sympathy in times of anxiety and private sorrow that we have received at your hands. It will never be forgotten. (Applause.)
Sir PAUL CHATER then called for three cheers for His Excellency and Lady Lugard, and these were given and acknowledged by His Excellency's bow.
This concluded the proceedings in the Hall, and Their Excellencies then left, Lady Lugard kissing her hands to friends as she passed out of the hall.
THE FAREWELL.

On arrival at Bla Pier Their Excel- lencies found a dense crowd had gathered in the vicinity. A guard of honour con- sisting of 100 rank and file of the K.O.Y.L.I., with regimental colours and band, faced the pier. The guard came to the salute and the band played a few bars of the National Anthem, His Ex- cellency, accompanied by Major-General Anderson, inspected the guard, after- wards inspecting the police guard of British, Chinese and Indians. Then Their Excellencies passed down the pier, shaking hands and bidding farewell to their numerous personal friends. At the steps the children belonging to the Ministering Children's League, British, Portuguese, and Chinese, were assembled, and a pretty little scene was witnessed when, on behalf of the Chinese children, a Chinese doll in a glass case was presented to her Ladyship and bouquets of beautiful flowers were presented by the others. Then they went on board the Government launch Victoria, which was lying along- side, and as it steamed off Their Excel- lencies waved in acknowledgment of the hats and handkerchiefs being waved to them. Several launches following fired crackers, and at the same time the land battery boomed its parting salute to the Governor. A number of Their Excel- lencies' more intimate friends accom- panied them to the s.s. Indin, and at one o'clock the mail steamer left for Home.
